PLANNING AHEAD
New Zealand needs to plan ahead and protect our aggregate supplies - so we can provide affordable houses for Kiwis and continue to build and repair our infrastructure. Read More
SOURCED LOCALLY
Quarrying needs to be carried out close to where materials will be used, minimising emissions in local communities and lowering cost of transportation and building. Read More
OUR ROADS
To build 1km of a two-lane motorway, you need around 14,000 tonnes of construction aggregates (400 truckloads). Read More
USING AGGREGATE
Aggregates are the most consumed bulk product in the world after water. New Zealand uses 9-10 tonnes of aggregate every year, or 1kg per hour for each adult and child. Read More

THE AGGREGATE & QUARRY ASSOCIATION – REPRESENTING NEW ZEALAND’S QUARRYING SECTOR.
Aggregate is sourced from rock quarries and from river stones and produced in sizes from tiny pebbles through to rocks as big as a table. These materials are the foundations of our everyday lives – for housing, schools, hospitals, factories and farms, offices, drains, roads and motorways.
Sourcing aggregate at local sites, safely and at reasonable cost, is fundamental to our nation’s future.
Today there are approximately 1100 registered quarries in New Zealand. Many of those are members of the the Aggregate and Quarry Association. Some of our members are still small operations; others are part of major corporates including J Swap Contractors, Fulton Hogan and Winstone Aggregates.
As a national body the AQA represents companies producing the many millions of tonnes of aggregate delivered every year as well as much of the limestone.
